AURORA, Colo. - The Aurora Animal Shelter is suspending dog intake and adoptions for up to 20 days.

Tracy Abbato says when she adopted her dog 10 years ago from the Adam’s County Animal shelter she registered him as a German Shepard, but last month Aurora Animal control determined the dog was a wolf-hybrid.
Capone has been living with the Abbato family in Aurora ever since he was taken home from the Adams County Animal Shelter about a decade ago.

Four state lawmakers on Thursday asked the Aurora animal shelter to turn over records involving a suspected wolf hybrid named Capone and put any plans to euthanize the animal on hold.City of Aurora, Colorado

The City of Aurora is seeking a skilled Community Outreach Program Coordinator to coordinate and facilitate offsite and outreach programs for the Aurora Animal Services Division and the Aurora Animal Shelter. This position will oversee the volunteer program; manage community-based events and special animal services programs; oversee offsite adoptions and events; and will assist with the care and treatment of animals in care at the shelter.“As members of the Colorado Legislature, we are concerned about the impoundment of Tracy Abbato’s family pet, Capone,” state Sen. Tim Neville, R-Littleton, and state Reps. Steve Lebsock, D-Thornton, Jovan Melton, D-Aurora, and Joann Ginal, D-Fort Collins, wrote in a letter to the manager of the Aurora Animal Shelter.“After receiving a complaint, Aurora Animal Services responded and picked up this animal running at large and acting aggressively, among other charges which are violations of city ordinance. Such animals are typically held at the Aurora Animal Shelter until a disposition hearing in front of a municipal judge, regardless of the charge of keeping a wild or exotic animal such as a hybrid.
