With efforts to avoid ending the lives of homeless dogs and cats, NKLA or No-Kill Los Angeles is an adoption agency advocating for the welfare of innocent animals. Sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society, NKLA offers new pet parents the opportunity to meet and greet potential pet family members with the ultimate goal of a successful adoption. NKLA has more than 100 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens from various breeds and sizes. They are open every day of the week, including holidays (Christmas Day is a popular time for pet adoption). NKLA has strict criteria for adopters, who must have current identification, be 18 years or older, consent from a landlord, and the commitment to spend the time and money necessary for proper care of the animal. This includes training and medical care. Celebrate 'St. Pawtrick's' And Adopt A PetLos Angeles area animal shelters are celebrating the Irish with a St. Pawtrick's Day event on Saturday, March 19.

Kitten Rescue volunteers and lots of amazing, adoptable cats and kittens will be at each weekly event.Animal Services has a great selection of pets in all sizes, ages, and breeds, just waiting for a new home with you. If several people are interested in adopting the same animal, under the Los Angeles Municipal Code, we must use a fair, competitive process for people to bid on the pet. We use a Silent Auction for that process. You can find the rules here in
or Tails of the City Rescue adoptions are held at the Petco on Beverly in Los Angeles (8161 Beverly Blvd at La Jolla). Petco is about 1/2 mile east of the Beverly Center. And there is plenty of parking!During the first weekend in June, we held two super adoption events — one in Los Angeles and another at the same time in New York City. They were both a huge success. In New York City, more than 350 animals found new homes, and in Los Angeles, more than 580 animals were adopted. But as I reflect on the weekend, the number of pets saved is almost a footnote in my mind, as I think about the shift I’ve witnessed since we’ve been putting these on.The event raised awareness of adoptable pets from more than 50 local shelters and rescues, including the Best Friends Pet Adoption & Spay/Neuter Center in Mission Hills and Los Angeles Animal Services.A long time ago, Best Friends challenged the concept of an animal being “unadoptable.” It’s all about finding the right person for that animal. Certainly not a unique idea at this point in time, but I can’t shake the feeling of the shift that we’ve seen in the pet-loving public in Los Angeles.
