Sarge, a 9-month-old German shepard shown in Santa Ana on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Coastal German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County. Sarge was rescued after Laguna Beach police Det. Jordan Mirakian police work resulted in bringing animal cruelty charges against Sarge’ previous owner, Amber Castillo who was convicted of 2 counts of animal cruelty and sentenced to 34 days in jail and three years of probation.. We had a blast yesterday at Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation 11th Annual Downtown Dog Walk but we were hot tired dogs when it was over. Because of the heat in the summer, we tend to stay at the house and other higher elevation areas and not venture into the valleys very often. The temperature canSaturday was our big photo shoot as we prepare for the Third Annual Valentine’s Hearts for the Herd Contest benefitting Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation. We were greeted by the enthusiastic Youth of Sarge’s who are running this year’s contest and fundraiser. It is so awesome to meet so many caring, concerned youth who are willingOur quiet Thursday was interrupted by a very dark enemy – the evil squeaky pig. We even have video proof of his diabolical nature. The 11th Annual Downtown Dog Walk kicks off this Saturday at 10 a.m. benefitting Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation. Most of our readers know that we have been a long-time supporter ofI studied the literacy practices at Sarge's Animal Rescue in Waynesville, North Carolina (about 45 minutes west of Asheville, in the Smoky Mountains). Sarge's rescues dogs and cats from euthanasia at the county animal shelter, and then places the animals in foster homes until they are adopted.Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundaiton launched a volunteer program this year in which kids practice reading books to the shelter animals. WOW. Kids imporve reading skills and our buddies at the shelter have company and learn social skills. WOW.Volunteers, paid personnel, and potential adopters are all responsible for reading and writing while visiting this business. Volunteers and paid personnel keep vaccination/medical records for all of the animals. The pertinent information on the animals is kept on Sarge's website, and employees need to be able to read and understand the information, in order to assist potential adopters. Potential adopters must fill out an application to adopt any animal, and, if they are approved, read and sign an adoption contract. There are many forms to fill out and paperwork to keep track of that go with each animal.
